What Leonard Ravenhill Taught Me About Conviction

At times, I love to look back at the pioneers of the gospel who paved the way for our faith. This week, I have been studying a man whose profound love for the Lord kept him on his knees: Leonard Ravenhill.
Hearing Ravenhill’s testimony brought a deep sense of conviction over my spirit. It forced me to pause and examine my own heart.
When many people feel convicted, they brush it off. But I choose not to ignore it. Conviction always comes for a reason. When the Holy Spirit convicts you, I encourage you to look inward and ask Him what He is trying to reveal.
Moving Past Anxiety
When I took my own conviction to prayer, a specific scripture immediately came to mind:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” — Philippians 4:6
Life gets busy. If we are not careful, we forget to pray about the very worries and stresses that weigh us down. Notice that the scripture says to pray in everything.
Let’s be honest: we often forget to pray about the small details. We experience anxiety because we feel a loss of control. But when we surrender our situations through prayer, we receive the beautiful blessing of God’s peace.
Remembering Your First Love
We must never forget the raw power of prayer. Leonard Ravenhill lived this truth. He didn’t care about what the world could offer him; he lived simply to be in the presence of the Lord. He woke up early every single day just to pray, remaining faithful until the day he was called home.
I am writing this as a gentle reminder to not forget your First Love. Do not let the chaotic pace of life get the best of you, causing you to neglect your prayer life.
- Nothing is too big for God.
- Nothing is too small for God.
- He is always faithful.
Too often, we start our faith journey strong but end up slack. A true relationship with the Lord requires dedicated time on our knees.
If you want to move past a “slack” prayer life and truly cultivate a deeper intimacy with the Lord, I invite you to read my book, Strengthening Your Relationship with Jesus. I wrote this book to give you the practical and spiritual tools needed to cut through the noise of daily life, overcome anxiety, and return to your First Love. True faith requires intentional time in His presence, and this book serves as your guide to building a consistent, powerful walk with Him.
